The 2020-2021 school year will look a little different. Each student will be faced with new challenges as some prepare to attend school in person and others will be doing classes remotely online. This is by far going to be a new learning experience for students, teachers, and parents. As we face this new school year, let us ask God for a little more patience and understanding as this is new for us all. May all of the youth and children of our church have a great school year and we can't wait to see you all again!
Faith and Love,
Amy
A Special Back to School Prayer
Lord, thank you for every child as they transition into a new school year. Cover them with your love, give them confidence and grace. Bless their teachers with wisdom, understanding, and a heart to serve, as they embark on this journey together. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen

PASTOR'S POST
35 That day, at evening, Jesus said to his followers, “Come with me across the lake.” 36 So they left the crowd behind and went with Jesus in the boat he was already in. There were also other boats that went with them. 37 A very bad wind came up on the lake. The waves were coming over the sides and into the boat, and it was almost full of water. 38 Jesus was inside the boat, sleeping with his head on a pillow. The followers went and woke him. They said, “Teacher, don’t you care about us? We are going to drown!”
I’m beginning to get an idea of what it was like in that boat with Jesus. 2020 has been a turbulent year to put it lightly. As I look at the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, I’m not sure how much more I can stomach or handle. Even though most of Crowley fared much better than expected, I feel as though the waves are already “coming over the sides and into the boat.” My soul frantically cries out for Jesus. He’s here, but it feels as though he’s asleep. Naturally, we question why. I can’t fathom why he would allow us into such a frightening and exhausting spot. Then, in fear and desperation, this question rings out in the tempest. “Teacher, don’t you care about us?”
39 Jesus stood up and gave a command to the wind and the water. He said, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind stopped, and the lake became calm. 40 He said to his followers, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 They were very afraid and asked each other, “What kind of man is this? Even the wind and the water obey him!"
The storm is calmed and still the disciples are very afraid. Shouldn’t they be aware of Jesus’ power by now? Wouldn’t they be relieved with the water no longer pouring into the boat? Why does Jesus suggest they have “no faith” when they called to him for help? As I begin to look at the ways we can assist in recovery, these questions feel more like waves slapping the edges of my boat, threatening to gather at my feet and soak my socks. I’ve still got more questions than answers. I’m thankful for answered prayers from last week, but painfully aware that not all prayers were answered. I'm still anxious about the weather, and also how we can best support our neighbors in the midst of devastation. The hurricane may have passed, but a storm still rages within me. So, I spare a moment to take a deep breath in and out and remind myself that Jesus is in this boat with us. Whether or not he’s asleep, that’s the boat I want to be in! Be good to yourself this week and stay safe.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Peter

Hurricane Laura Update
Last week’s storm, Hurricane Laura, had a catastrophic impact on southwest Louisiana. In Crowley, no damage was
sustained to the church facilities or the parsonage. However, it did interrupt Sunday services because
power was not restored to the building at that time. Limited reports were received of losses
or damages to the members of FUMC. If you experienced any damage or need assistance
in post-storm recovery, please contact the church office at 337-783-6754.
There will be volunteer opportunities to assist with the rebuilding process
through the church and the conference. More information will be provided in the near future.
